Numbah 1 day of Christmas . . .

Photo composite by Dean Sensui, Star-Bulletin

For a bit of holiday cheer, the Star-Bulletin is counting down the 12 Days of Christmas. For the past two weeks through today, a staff photographer has presented the gift item of the day, as named in the local version of the song, "The Twelve Days of Christmas."

We did a pre-Christmas countdown, starting with the 12th-day gift and ending today with the "numbah-one day" gift: a mynah bird in a papaya tree. Or, as the song goes: "Numbah one day of Christmas, my tutu give to me, one mynah bird in one papaya tree."

It took just 15 minutes to write, the authors say. Today, "Numbah One Day of Christmas," the local version of "The 12 Days of Christmas," is an island classic. On Monday, read how the composers created the song. And, due to popular request, we'll publish all 12 pictures created by our staff photographers for our recent local-style countdown of the 12 days of Christmas.
