State firefighters were at the Honolulu Airport runway; however, there were no complications with the plane's landing and no injuries reported among passengers or crew.

Police warn of caller posing as HPD officer

A recent incident involving a female caller identifying herself as a Honolulu Police Department officer has prompted police to warn the public about giving out personal information, such as Social Security numbers and dates of birth, over the phone.

Police said that about 5 p.m. Monday, a Catlin Park Navy resident received a call from a female who identified herself as a sergeant with the Honolulu Police Department. The female said she was investigating a mail fraud case in Aiea and needed the man's date of birth and Social Security number.

Police said when the resident declined to give the information, the female called back two more times.

HPD officials warn that unless they are following up on a case, officers will not ask for an individual's Social Security number over the telephone. Police officers are also supposed to provide the name of their unit, a supervisor's name and contact number for verification.

Police advise people never to give out their Social Security numbers to anyone over the phone if they did not initiate the call.
