Vision 2002

The photos I have taken of the family of the murdered 11-year-old, Kahealani Indreginal were not my favorites, but they held the most meaning for me. As I think of my precious daughter, I cannot begin to imagine what the Indreginal family is going through. This is Tatiana Cacatian, a cousin of Kahealani, whose body was found the day before on the Aiea Loop Trail. Cacatian placed her hand on the words "IN LOVING MEMORY ... KAHEA," without moving for about 10 minutes. Her moment of silence was deafening.

When I was looking for a feature picture, I noticed these people fishing for oama (baby goat fish) off Ala Moana Park under a colorful sky. After the sun set, the colors became more intense, so much so that everyone stopped fishing and looked up, marveling at the view. I heard Carla Stone remark, "Lucky you live Hawaii." This is one of the many reasons why I love working here. Where else can I go to work everyday in shorts, meet great people and enjoy moments like this? I hope our readers enjoy this as this photo has never run.
