AVCA coaches pollUCLA (16-3) remained in the top spot with nine first-place votes, ahead of the Warriors (12-3), who received four first-place votes.
Pepperdine (15-4), Penn State (13-2) and Brigham Young (11-5) round out the top five.
In the Volleyball magazine poll released Monday, UCLA is at the top, followed in order by Pepperdine and Hawaii.
The Warriors next play at UC Santa Barbara March 12 and 13.
Rainbow Wahine in 15th at Spartan Invitational
Hawaii is in 15th place out of 16 teams after the second of three rounds in the Spartan Invitational women's golf tournament.The Rainbow Wahine shot a second-round 328, an improvement of nine strokes over the first day, for a 665 total. They trail first-place California by 76.
Kristy McPherson of South Carolina is the individual leader at 4-under-par 140.
Hawaii's top two golfers at the tournament are Kristin Scholl and Laura DuLucia. Both are tied for 66th out of 83 golfers at 18-over-par 162.
Hawaii coed sailing team takes second at Stanford
The Hawaii coed sailing team finished second to Boston College at the Jeremy McIntyre Team Race Intersectional hosted by Stanford last weekend.The Rainbows finished with an 11-3 record, one race behind the Eagles, who ended at 12-2.
Lucas scores a 10 in gymnastics meet
Boise State freshman Marie Lucas scored a perfect 10 on a beam routine in last week's gymnastics meet against Utah State in Logan, Utah.Lucas is a 2001 Mililani High School graduate from Ewa Beach, and her 10 is the first perfect score by a Boise State freshman in any event.
The Aggies defeated the Broncos, 193.4- 193.35.
Simms part Michigan's relay team champions
Former Mililani High School track star Vera Simms was part of Michigan's winning distance medley relay team at the Big Ten Indoor Championships.Simms ran a 400-meter leg in 56.42 and teamed with Jane Martineau, Stephanie Hirtle and Katie Ryan for the victory.
Hot bat garners honor for Hilo's LaRose
Hawaii-Hilo's Michelle LaRose has been named the Pacific West Player of the Week after going 8-for-11 in a four-game sweep of Montana State-Billings.The senior first baseman, from Kahului, Maui, also stole four bases, scored three runs and knocked in four runs.
LaRose is the third straight Vulcan to win the award, following Diana Kim and Kristine Kahoalii.
Sutherland tops surfing airshow
Oahu's Gavin Sutherland flew his way to victory in the Billabong Boost Mobile Airshow surfing contest at Sebastien Inlet, Fla., on Sunday.Sutherland's win earned him the $4,000 first prize.
Kauai's Randy Welsh, who leads the Vans SMAS Airshow Series, placed second and earned $2,000.
HPU's Taguchi stuck at 14 dingers after split
Wade Taguchi went 0-for-7 and stayed tied for Hawaii Pacific's career home run lead, but his Sea Warriors were still able to split a doubleheader with Tusculum (Tenn.) College at Aloha Stadium on Sunday.Hawaii Pacific won the first game, 6-5, but dropped the second by the same score.
Toby Noe pitched six innings in the first game and gave up two earned runs, and Brandon Kahale pitched the final inning for the win.
Derek Little drove in three runs.
Taguchi is tied for HPU's career home run lead at 14 with Benny Agbayani, Jon Dias and Gabe Gerhart.
Figure skating event at Ice Palace
The Hawaii Figure Skating Club hosts the Skate Aloha 2002 competition March 14-16 at the Ice Palace in the Stadium Mall.Admission is free for all spectators. The hours are 3 to 8:30 p.m. on March 14, 2-6 p.m. on March 15 and 6-10 a.m. on March 16.
Over 80 skaters are expected from Hawaii, Alaska, California, Florida, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nebraska, Utah, Scotland and Canada.
