Tryouts for Warriors,
Wave teams

The Hawaiian Warriors, a new entry in the North American Football League, will hold tryouts at 6:30 p.m. tomorrow at Aiea District Park for players with college, semipro, indoor or professional experience.

The Hawaiian Wave women's football team also will conduct tryouts at the same time and place. Any female athlete interested in playing is encouraged to turn out.

There is no charge for the men's or women's tryouts.

Players should dress in shorts T-shirts and surface cleats.

Coaches interested in working with the Warriors also are invited to attend.

ODKF applications out

Applications for the Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Foundation scholarship grants are available for 2000-2001.

Scholarship grants are awarded to athletes in need of assistance in pursuing post-high school education. Applications will be accepted through March 15; the grants will be awarded this summer.

Applicants must be Hawaii residents and U.S. citizens, have participated in competitive sports and demonstrate financial need.

The Foundation also awards athletic grants to individuals and teams for specific events. Those can be applied for at any time.

UH's Robionson added to Hula Bowl roster

University of Hawaii quarterback Dan Robinson will be playing one more game in the islands.

He has been invited to play in the Hula Bowl all-star game Jan. 22 at War Memorial Stadium on Maui.

Robinson said he considers it an honor to get one more chance to play in Hawaii.

Robinson, who graduated Dec. 19, set 30 school records this season, and led the Rainbows to victory over Oregon State in the Oahu Bowl.
