[ SUMMER CAMPS ]

Volleyball camp
schedule ‘ambitious’

Volleyball Camp With Champions is
offered on Oahu, Maui and the Big Island

Camp directory

It's an ambitious schedule. Five camps on three islands, taking up four weeks this summer.

The second Volleyball Camp With Champions will provide instruction for boys and girls, ages 12-18. Sessions are offered for hitters, setters and all-skills, on Oahu, Maui and the Big Island.

"It is ambitious," said camp director Alfred Agcaoili, president of Mizuno Hawaii and Mizuno NorCal junior club programs. "And next year, we hope to add Kauai.

"We had a very good response last year and we are looking at seeing it grow further. Hawaii is the place for volleyball."

former Hawaii All-American middle Deitre Collins and former Long Beach State All-American setter Joy McKienzie are among the staff members scheduled for at least one camp. Several former UH men's players will also help out, including Arri Jeschke, Eyal Zimet, Dejan Miladinovic and Sivan Leoni.

Several of the staff members will be doing what Agcaoili called a "island hop promo" Saturday with pre-registration at five Oahu sites:

>> Kahala Mall, 10-11 a.m.
>> Sports Authority-Waikele, 11:30-2 p.m.
>> Sports Authority-Ward Ave., 3-5 p.m.
>> McCully Bike Shop, 5-6 p.m.
>> Star Market-Kahala Mall, 6:30-7:30 p.m.

The Maui camp is scheduled for July 9-12 at Seabury Hall. The Big Island camp will be at Kealakehe High School on July 16-19.

While the camps are geared to the tradition "junior" ages (12-18), the demand for sessions for young players led to the creation of "Rising Stars Keiki." This is for ages 7-12, on July 23-25.

If volleyball is not the sport of interest, there are camps available for basketball, baseball, soccer, softball and speed and quickness.

See the directory below for more information on upcoming camps.
