LIHUE >> Jonathan Ibana, 21, was bound over to Kauai Circuit Court yesterday on charges of kidnapping and attempted second-degree murder for the stabbing of his 14-year-old girlfriend in Wailua Sunday night.

Following a brief hearing, District Judge Trudy Senda ruled there was sufficient probable cause to believe Ibana committed the crime. He is being held in lieu of $250,000 bail.

Dr. Thatcher Magoun, a surgeon at Wilcox Memorial Hospital, where the victim is recovering, testified she was stabbed three times in the back. The first wound punctured a kidney, the second was in her lower back and did not damage any major organs, and the third was a superficial wound.

Kauai Police Detective Sam Sheldon testified the victim told him she and Ibana had argued while both were at a friend's house and that he began punching her. He then forced her into a bedroom and held her down while he stabbed her, Sheldon said.

A 15-year-old neighbor of the victim said the victim and Ibana were visiting her house, and she heard the victim tell Ibana she did not like the way he was treating her and did not want to see him anymore.

The friend said she went next door to visit another neighbor. When she returned she heard the victim screaming, calling her name and yelling, "Jonathan, stop it." She said the screams were coming from her bedroom, and she found the door locked.

She said Ibana opened the door and ran out of the house. She found the victim bleeding from three wounds in her back.

Ibana was arrested Tuesday in the lobby of a Wailua hotel after police received an anonymous tip.

Sheldon testified Ibana's shirt was stained with what appeared to be blood.
