We like variety, convenience and style
We love to shop and we love to look sharp.
And when we're looking to do both, there's no better place to go than Macy's, which won accolades for best department store, and best place to buy men's and women's clothing.
Celebrating its fifth year in the Hawaii market, Macy's carries everything from clothes, shoes and accessories to cosmetics, travel necessities, home furnishings and more.
"Macy's is a fun and cutting-edge retailer," said Lavina Wong, director of special events for Macy's. "We strive to give Hawaii an assortment of products of diversity and depth, as well as delivering outstanding customer service.
"We provide a wide range of needs to our customers and the community, in every department. We also support local merchandising, such brands as Iolani, Tori Richard and Local Motion."
When it comes to shopping, customers seem to want variety and convenience. So, it's no surprise that Ala Moana Shopping Center, with 260 stores and 70 places to eat, was voted best shopping center.
"I think Ala Moana Center is a favorite because it offers so much diversity that there really is something for everybody," said Erica Neves, who is director of tourism at the mall. "In the last few months we had more than a dozen new stores open up and there's probably another half a dozen or more stores scheduled to open up this year.
"Also, two restaurants in Hookipa Terrace - Kyoto Ohsho and Tsukiji Fish Market and Restaurant - are going to open this fall. And Pearl, a nightlife concept lounge, is opening up this summer."
Other stores scheduled to open include Theory, Miss Sixty, Jimmy Choo and Juicy Couture. And the mall is currently renovating for the first full-line Nordstrom store, which opens in 2008.
"What's really exciting is a lot of these stores are first or only ones in Hawaii," Neves added. "So, not only does that appeal to the local people on Oahu but also to the local people on the other islands as well. They can come over and do all their shopping here."
For the fourth consecutive year, Hilo Hattie was named best aloha wear. With seven stores in Hawaii, four on the Mainland and an e-commerce division, Hilo Hattie carries aloha attire, accessories and home furnishings with a 100 percent quality guarantee.
"We're really proud to win such an award primarily because it really reflects on our employees," Hilo Hattie president Paul deVille said. "They work really hard to put out the best quality products that they can. We're locally owned and all of our employees, many who have been here for many, many years, take great pride in our products and it really shows."
Other winners are: Watanabe Floral (florist), Cindy's Lei & Flower Shoppe (lei stand), Royal Hawaiian Heritage Jewelry (Hawaiian style), Down to Earth (health food), Sports Authority (sporting goods store), Nevada Bob's (golf shop), Harry's Music Store (musical instruments), Town & Country (surf shop), City Mill (hardware store), Lex Brodie's Tire Company (tire shop), Best Buy (electronics), Comp USA (computer store), Wal-Mart (discount store) and Home Depot (garden nursery).
