Pilot and passenger OK after copter crash on Maui
One person sustained minor injuries yesterday in a helicopter crash on Maui, police said.
The incident happened at about 12:25 p.m. when the helicopter's pilot tried to land at privately owned property in Wailuku Country Estates. Police said a gust of wind caused the helicopter to tilt and hit a tree before coming to a rest on its side.
Maui police identified the pilot as Honolulu attorney Thomas J. Lane. He was uninjured. Police said the passenger, whose age was not available, was treated at the scene and released.
The National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration have been notified.

Man held in alleged theft of tanker truck
Police arrested a 46-year-old Waianae man yesterday after he allegedly stole a petroleum tanker truck from Campbell Industrial Park.
At about 12:20 a.m., police said, an employee of Hawaii Logistic Services at 91-315 Hanua St. saw the suspect drive away with one of the company's petroleum tanker trucks.
Police said the employee, 37, followed the truck as it entered another business property within the industrial park, and called the police.
Police found the suspect pumping 129 gallons of diesel from the tanker truck into an industrial petroleum tank.
Police arrested the 46-year-old man on suspicion of unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle and second-degree theft. Police said the suspect has 20 prior convictions.
Police search for 2 in robbery near ATM
Police are seeking two male suspects for allegedly robbing another man near an automated teller machine in Pearl City.

At about 9:30 p.m. Saturday, police said, a 28-year-old man walked away from the ATM machine of Hawaii National Bank at 98-1264 Kaahumanu St. when the suspects, described to be in their early to mid-20s, drove up in a vehicle.
One of the suspects pointed a handgun and demanded money. Police said the victim gave the suspects money before they fled. No one was injured, police said.

Kailua man arrested after brick hits car
Police arrested a 44-year-old man after he allegedly struck a vehicle with a brick in Kailua.
The incident occurred at about 8:30 p.m. Saturday at the 1100 block of Akipola St. Police said the vehicle belongs to a 64-year-old man. Damage to the vehicle is estimated at more than $3,000.
Police arrested the 44-year-old man on suspicion of second-degree criminal property damage.

Kalihi neighbor held in alleged assault
Police arrested a 31-year-old woman after she allegedly assaulted another woman in Kalihi.
At about 2:50 p.m. Saturday, police said, the suspect and the victim, 32, who are neighbors, were involved in a verbal argument at 50 Kauila St.
The argument escalated when the suspect struck the victim with a wooden object that was 2 feet long and 2 feet wide.
Police said the victim suffered minor injuries to her head. Police arrested the 31-year-old woman on suspicion of second-degree assault.
Police arrest 3 teens for water tank graffiti
Police arrested three male juveniles for allegedly defacing a Board of Water Supply water tank with graffiti at Mariner's Ridge Saturday.
Sometime before 2:30 p.m., police received an anonymous call reporting that the three suspects -- one age 15 and the other two age 16 -- were spray-painting on a water tank that holds 300,000 gallons of water at 1138 Kaumoku St.
Patrol officers observed one of the three males spraying on the tank, while the other two males were found in some bushes.
Police recovered spray cans and put damage estimates at $1,800.
Police arrested the three male suspects on suspicion of second-degree criminal property damage, a Class C felony. They were released pending further investigation.
