Pick up wedding advice, free
L'Elegance Bridal Consultants is hosting an intimate Bridal Event at the Honolulu Club from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, allowing couples and their families to meet several vendors, from florists to videographers, and receive answers to their questions about planning a wedding.
Participants include Logan and Clark Invitations, Marcia Campbell photography and Phil's Gold and Diamonds, which will present some of the newly arrived bridal jewelry created by Vera Wang.
There will also be cake samples from Cake Lava and iced tea from the Wedding Cafe.

Jack Johnson wins over British at the Brit Awards
Jack Johnson took the award for international breakthrough artist at yesterday's Brit Awards for popular music, the United Kingdom's counterpart to the Grammy Awards.
The Kaiser Chiefs, who headed the nominations with James Blunt at five each, received three honors: best British group, best British rock act and best British live act.
Coldplay, who had four nominations, received two honors including best British album for "X&Y" and best British single for "Speed of Sound."
Singer-songwriter Blunt won best British pop act and best British male solo artist at the ceremony, which was held in Earls Court, in West London.
The full list of winners are male solo artist and pop act, James Blunt; female solo artist, KT Tunstall; album, Coldplay for "X&Y"; single, Coldplay for "Speed of Sound"; group, Kaiser Chiefs; rock, pop and live act awards: Kaiser Chiefs; urban act, Lemar; breakthrough act, Arctic Monkeys; international breakthrough artist, Jack Johnson; international male solo artist, Kanye West; international female solo artist, Madonna; international group, Green Day; international album: Green Day for "American Idiot"; and outstanding contribution to music, Paul Weller.

Friends of Waipahu Public Library hosts a sale of used books and more from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 18.

Donations may be dropped off at the library, 94-275 Mokuola St., next to the Waipahu Civic Center, during library hours (10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and tomorrow).

Author onstage
Kristin Pauka, associate professor of theater and dance at the University of Hawaii, will be the guest at "Saturday Morning Authors," 10 a.m. Saturday at Hamilton Library addition on the Manoa campus.
Pauka will discuss dance and martial arts training in West Sumatra, as related in her book and CD on the topic.
Pauka specializes in "randai" theater and other forms of Southeast Asian performance art. She has produced and directed several Kennedy Theatre shows and has performed internationally for a decade.

Bamboo birthday
Bamboo Ridge celebrates 27 years of publishing on March 6 at Manoa Valley Theatre, with readings of stories and poems.
Storytellers Nyla Fujii-Babb, Eric Mita and Janice Terukina will be featured at the 7:30 p.m. event. Admission is free to Bamboo Ridge Press members; donations accepted from others.
