Bronson Ross of Oahu Powerwash Services demonstrated yesterday how high-pressure washers can clean out ground-in dirt outside the restroom at Sand Island Recreational Area. The state plans to spend almost $1 million fixing, cleaning and painting its 80 park and recreational-area restrooms by July. Dirty and dysfunctional restrooms were among the biggest complaints in a survey of tourists and locals regarding state parks, Department of Land and Natural Resources Director Peter Young said. Power washing will be done at state restrooms twice a month* in addition to daily routine cleaning, Young said.
