Man convicted 209 times
allegedly hits officer
A 49-year-old man with more then 200 convictions has been charged with assault of a law enforcement officer after he allegedly punched a policewoman in the nose Monday night.
Clifton Ching has 209 convictions for petty misdemeanor and misdemeanor crimes including prostitution, promoting intoxicating compounds, theft, shoplifting and criminal trespassing, as recent as June 7 and as far back as 1974.
Ching is also known as Donnie Ching, Lovela Ching, Donniegirl, Donnie Lavell, Lovela Lee, Oki and Susu, according to police.
The police officer responded to a security guard's call for assistance with a trespasser at 6:51 p.m. at the Waikiki Trade Center at 2255 Kuhio Ave.
Ching allegedly had been trespassing in the building, left the premises when the officer arrived at 7:01 p.m. and then returned about 7:30 p.m., according to a police affidavit.
The officer informed Ching that he was under arrest for investigation of second-degree criminal trespassing, and grabbed the left sleeve of his sweater, police said. Ching then "reared back his right arm and with a closed fist, punched victim square in the face, causing her nose to bleed," the affidavit said.
The security guard assisted the officer in subduing the suspect.
Witnesses said they heard the officer tell the suspect to stop and saw him punch the officer, according to the affidavit.
The officer was taken to the Queen's Medical Center, where she was treated and released.
Ching was also charged Tuesday with second-degree criminal trespassing.
