Hawaii soccer players earned a number of weekly, conference, region and academic honors during the 2004 season.
Player of the week honors went to Lisa Franke (Kealakehe, Bethel, Ind.), Mid-Central College Conference; Natasha Kai (Kahuku, Hawaii), Western Athletic Conference; Jennifer Lau (Punahou, Wellesley), New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference.
And Romy Trigg-Smith (Punahou, Princeton), Ivy League; Bobby Shinn (Pearl City, Pacific University), Northwest Conference; Duke Hashimoto (Iolani, Southern Methodist), Missouri Valley Conference.
Also, Jessica Uecker (UH), WAC; Adria Campbell (Punahou, Southern Methodist), WAC; Richie Higa (Mid-Pacific, Massachusetts), Atlantic-10 Conference; Jen Loo (Mililani, Idaho), Big Sky Conference, and Chela Gray (Iolani, Western Washington), Great Northwest Athletic Conference.
Brett Kagawa (Mililani, Whitworth) and Kalei Titcomb (Kamehameha, Pacific University) were honorable-mention selections and Shinn twice was an honorable mention pick in the Northwest Conference.
Allison Lipsher (Punahou, Duke) was selected to the Atlantic Coast Conference freshman team.
Ten players, including Kai, Franke, Trigg-Smith, Shinn, Campbell, Loo and Gray, were voted to the first team of their respective all-conference teams at the end of the season.
Other first-team members were Lindsey Peck (Kalaheo, Missouri Valley), Heart of America Conference; JoBette Nabarro (Waiakea, Bethel, Ind.), Mid-Central College Conference, and Joelle Sugai (Aiea, UH), WAC.
All-conference second-team accolades went to UH seniors Robyn deHay (Kamehameha) and Krystalynn Ontai (Kamehameha); Kara Ishikawa (Iolani, Cornell), Ivy League, and Charlene Lui (Punahou, Brigham Young), Mountain West Conference.
Jessica Levitt (Parker, Dominican, Ill.) and Bethany Nishimoto (Hanalani, Dordt), were honorable-mention picks in the Northern Illinois-Iowa and Great Plains Athletic conferences, respectively.
Mayumi Stevens (Moanalua) joined teammates Franke and Nabarro on the National Christian College Athletic Association North Central All-Region first team.
Trigg-Smith, Kai and Lipsher were all-region selections.
Eleven players, led by six UH players -- Sugai, Ontai, Uecker, Koren Takeyama, Seline Williams and Wendi Young -- received all-academic league honors. Sugai also was a first-team CoSIDA All-District VII pick and a third-team CoSIDA All-America choice.
Lui, Trigg-Smith and Ishikawa earned all-conference academic honors with Maile Tavepholjalern (Punahou, Harvard).
Jen Katres (Kalaheo, Missouri Valley) was honored as a Daktronics NAIA All-America Scholar Athlete.
Veteran's Cup
Four Hawaii teams are entered in the U.S. Adult Soccer Association Veteran's Cup, June 22-26 in Wilmington, N.C.
They are defending champion Honolulu United (over 45 men); He Kini Popo 50 (over 50 women); Holomua (over 50 women) and He Kini Popo 55 (over 55 women).
