U.S. Open sectional qualifier tomorrow

A spot in the U.S. Open is at stake in tomorrow's sectional qualifier at the Kaanapali North Course on Maui.

Twelve golfers are entered in the 36-hole tournament, with the winner earning a berth in the U.S. Open, June 13-19 at the Pinehurst Resort in North Carolina.

University of Hawaii golfer Pierre-Henri Soero, Regan Lee, Joe Phengsavath and Shizuo Mori earned berths in the sectional as the top finishers at a local qualfier at Turtle Bay on May 13. Brian Sasada, David Havens and Eddie Lee qualified at the Maui event on May 14.

Jonathan Ota and Michael Castillo were the top scorers at the Kauai qualifier on May 19. Sean Maekawa and K.C. Botelho were top finishers at the Big Island qualifier on May 23. Berry Henson of La Quinta, Calif., is also in the field.

Fink to speak at Quarterback Club meeting

KHNL/KFVE vice president and general manager John Fink is among the speakers at tomorrow's meeting of the Honolulu Quarterback Club.

KFVE has televised University of Hawaii sports for the last 22 years and was awarded another three-year contract by UH on Friday.

UH discus and hammer thrower Novelle Murray and Ed Kemper, assistant regional executive director of Sports Car Clubs of America, are also scheduled to speak.

The luncheon starts at 11:30 a.m. at the Pagoda Hotel Ballroom. The program starts at noon.

Bulls capture their fourth Robledo Cup

The Honolulu Bulls Soccer Club won its fourth consecutive Robledo Cup title Friday night at Ala Wai Field by defeating HPU White on penalty kicks after regulation and extra time ended tied 2-2.

The Bulls scored first on a penalty kick by Kenji Treschuk at 23 minutes, but Akihide Adachi evened the score in the 38th minute.

HPU White took a 2-1 lead in the second half when Adachi scored in the 59th minute, putting the ball in the net during a scramble after Marcos Santos' shot hit the crossbar.

Satoshi Mitsuda picked up his own rebound off HPU goalie Fredrick Tunwall and scored in the 62nd minute.

In the penalty-kick phase, Bulls goalie Stephen Fung made the save on HPU's seventh try, keeping the Bulls undefeated in four years of the cup competition.
