Volleyball renewals due

Season-ticket renewals for the upcoming Rainbow Wahine volleyball season are due today.

Tickets can be renewed at the Stan Sheriff Center ticket office from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., by fax at 956-3403, or on the web at etickethawaii.com.

The 2005 home schedule begins with the Hawaiian Airlines Wahine Volleyball Classic Sept. 1 when the Wahine take on Western Michigan.

Wahine destroy Pacific

Beth Novick and Shannon Carroll each scored three goals as No. 4 Hawaii pounded Pacific 15-6 yesterday in the opening game of the 2005 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships at Berkeley, Calif.

Monika Kruszona and Malia Tarayao each added two goals as Hawaii tied a team-high for goals in a game this season with 15.

The Wahine will take on fifth-seeded Long Beach State in a quarterfinals game today at 11 a.m.

DeBartolo finishes 19th

Hawaii freshmen Bianca DeBartolo finished 19th in the heptathlon at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa, yesterday with a score of 4,354 points.

Her best event was the javelin as she had the fourth-farthest throw of 34.9 meters.

The Drake Relays will continue today with Kelly Young, Dana Buchanan, Tasha Monroe, Jessica Rohr, Sheena Thain and Heather Scott all scheduled to compete for Hawaii.

UH-Hilo, Hawaii Pacific both ranked

The UH-Hilo softball team remained fifth in the latest NCAA Division II West Regional Softball poll released yesterday, while Hawaii Pacific entered the poll ranked ninth.

UH-Hilo currently is 32-9 while Hawaii Pacific is 26-15. There are two remaining regular-season polls before pairings for the postseason regional tournament are announced May 9.

HPU honors athletes

Senior Matey Pampulov and junior Flavia Brakling were named male and female scholar-athletes of the year, highlighting the 2005 Hawaii Pacific student-athlete awards banquet yesterday at the Radisson Waikiki Prince Kuhio Hotel.

Pampulov, a management information systems major, was named to the PacWest All-Conference men's tennis team and is No. 10 in Division II while holding a 3.92 GPA. Brakling, who led the Sea Warriors to their second straight PacWest volleyball title, carries a 3.51 GPA and was a second-team all-conference performer as an outside hitter.

Jennifer Baron and Aleksander Jakovljevic took home the "Sea Warrior" awards while coach Tita Ahuna was honored for being named the PacWest volleyball coach of the year.
