CRIB NOTES

Pondering a backyard oasis?

Visions of transforming your back yard into an oasis with a pond don't have to remain a dream. Enter the Beckett 2005 National Pond Contest and your landscape can go from bland to grand.

Whether in ground, above ground or with a waterfall, what makes your vision unique and the reason you want to build it can win a grand prize of $3,000 worth of gardening supplies and components, plus a one-day consultation with a professional.

Simply submit up to an 8-by-10-inch color photo with a 250-word essay to Beckett's Dream Oasis Challenge, P.O. Box 359, Dallas, TX 75240, before June 15. Entries will be judged 50 percent on creativity for transforming the space, 25 percent on uniqueness and innovation, and 25 percent on motivation (how it will used and why it is desired), plus anecdotes describing the project's necessity.

Entrants who want to know the winner's name must include a self-addressed stamped envelope, and will receive a response after Sept. 1. Judges decisions are final. The winner will be announced in early August.
