The Bloomberg / Star-Bulletin Index is a price-weighted index designed to measure the performance of Hawaii-based companies. The index was developed with a base value of 100 as of December 31, 1999. A chart of the index which shows the weekly performance of its members is published weekly in the Honolulu Star-Bulletin.
Maui Land roars back
Maui Land & Pineapple Co., which hit a six-month low of $29.20 on Aug. 16, continued its upward move as it rose 8.6 percent this week to lead nine other stocks in the Bloomberg Honolulu Star-Bulletin index. The company's shares closed yesterday at $41, just off its all-time high of $41.75 and more than 40 percent above its six-month low.
ML Macadamia Orchards LP also had a strong week with a 7.1 percent rise to $6.02, its highest closing level in more than 12 years. The company's stock has risen 57.6 percent from its six-month low of $3.82 on Sept. 13.
