‘Shaggy Dog’ remake
to film here for a day

Tim Allen and some cast members from Walt Disney's remake of "The Shaggy Dog" will film a day on an Oahu beach in March. The movie is being directed by "Coach Carter" helmer Brian Robbins, and co-stars Craig Kilborn, Robert Downey Jr., Danny Glover, and Kristin Davis as Allen's wife. Executive producer is William Fay, who shot part of "Godzilla" here ...

Tool of North America just finished five days filming on the Big Island a $1 million-plus Honda commercial for the Super Bowl by director Erich Joiner. Locations included the top of Hualalai (where the company's new Ridgeline pickup truck models were transported by helicopter), the Saddle Road area and the West Hawaii Concrete quarry. About 50 local crew were used. Cinematographer was Bill Pope ("Spider Man," "The Matrix") ...

ABC/Touchstone's possible relocation of "Lost" to a less expensive locale isn't sudden news. The network has made its concerns clear to several state officials for months. Local production people agree that if the hit series is forced to leave Hawaii, the state's reputation in Hollywood will be sullied for a very long time. Cast members will be interviewed on tomorrow's "Good Morning America."

Local publicist Kristin Jackson has been hired by ABC/Touchstone to work with local media on "Lost." She did the same job for "Baywatch Hawaii" and NBC's "Hawaii" ...

There'll be an important legislative hearing on Hawaii's film/television industry at 1:15 p.m. tomorrow in Conference Room 016 at the State Capitol. The informational briefing will discuss the viability of the local production industry, and address growth strategies.

Hawaii's current financial incentives are behind most states and Canada and Australia. Guest speakers include filmmaker David L. Cunningham, ("To End All Wars" and the "Little House on the Prairie" TV mini-series for ABC/Touchstone); "Lost" producer Jean Higgins, and Brenda Ching, executive director of the Screen Actors Guild-Hawaii ...

Kudos to new Kauai film commissioner Art Umezu for landing Jim Wynorski and his Barking Sands Productions' "Komodo vs. Cobra" low-budget indie film, which just completed a week's shoot ...
