Perry and Price grab
21.5 percent of the
morning radio audience
KSSK-FM 92.3 and its morning team of Michael W. Perry and Larry Price still top Honolulu radio ratings, according to the fall 2004 Arbitron survey.
Ratings for the Perry and Price Show far exceed other a.m. radio offerings, garnering 21.5 percent of the 12-and-older audience from 6 to 10 a.m. Monday through Friday. The show has the advantage of being simulcast on KSSK-FM and AM 590.
The No. 2, 3 and 4 radio stations in Honolulu belong to Atlanta-based Cox Radio Inc. and regularly jostle for position beneath KSSK.
Rising in the ratings are Chris Reiser and Sista Sherry at KRTR-FM 96.3, going from a 6.9 share in the summer ratings to 7.6 this time around. The morning team replaced former television news anchor Dan Cooke, who resigned in September to sell luxury real estate.
The third-ranked KINE-FM 105.1 morning show starring state Democratic Party Chairman Brickwood Galuteria earned a 5.1 in the ratings, down more than a full share point from last fall's survey. Former partner Frank B. Shaner left the long-running show when station officials restructured it last January.
Two stations occupy the fourth-place slot with 4.9 percent of the audience -- Cox's KCCN-FM 100.3 and KIKI-FM 93.9. KIKI is owned by Texas-based Clear Channel Communications Inc. and so are KSSK-FM and AM.
The only top-10 morning show that has enjoyed steady fall survey increases is at KUMU-FM 94.7, owned by Maui-based Visionary Related Entertainment LLC. Ratings for Tiny Tadani, who is also a television personality, Bill Brennan and Mandy Suganuma have gone from 3.8 in fall 2002 to 4.1 in fall 2003 to 4.4 in fall 2004. The show hit No. 6 this time, and is simulcast on Oceanic Cable Channel 16 between 7 and 8 a.m. Meanwhile, Brennan stepped down in January to serve as press secretary for Honolulu Mayor Mufi Hannemann.
The top 10 morning shows are rounded out by KDNN-FM 98.5, KUCD-FM 101.9, KDDB-FM 102.7 and KGMZ-FM 107.9.
