The Bloomberg / Star-Bulletin Index is a price-weighted index designed to measure the performance of Hawaii-based companies. The index was developed with a base value of 100 as of December 31, 1999. A chart of the index which shows the weekly performance of its members is published weekly in the Honolulu Star-Bulletin.
Barnwell returns
Barnwell Industries Inc., the top performer in the Bloomberg Honolulu Star-Bulletin index last year with a 134 percent gain, returned to its winning ways in this holiday-shortened week as it topped nine other local stocks with a 0.9 percent return.
The oil and gas exploration company, which also has Big Island real estate holdings, closed yesterday at $75.70. Last week, the stock hit an all-time closing high of $85.85. The company will split its stock 2-for-1 Friday.
Mera Pharmaceuticals Inc. brought up the rear as it fell 6.7 percent to 1.4 cents.
