Honolulu police closed both directions of Kapiolani Boulevard yesterday.

Section of Kapiolani closed after car crash

Kapiolani Boulevard between McCully and Isenberg streets was closed for several hours yesterday after a car hit a utility pole at Wiliwili Street at about 5:16 p.m. yesterday.

Two west-bound lanes and an east-bound lane were opened shortly after 9 p.m. last night, but Hawaiian Electric Co. crews were expected to work through this afternoon to fix the pole. Power was not affected and no one was serious injured in the crash.

Woman arrested after gunshot wounds man

A 47-year-old woman was arrested for second-degree assault late Friday after her boyfriend's gun went off in her hand, causing a bullet to strike his left hand and chest.

The incident happened about 11 p.m., when a 62-year-old man was lying on a bed in his Middle Street home when the woman came into the room, sat on the bed and picked up a gun from the night stand table.

Police said she told them the "gun went off" in her hand and that the alleged assault was an accident. The victim was taken to Kaiser's Moanalua Medical Center and was last reported in good condition.

WAIKIKI

22-year-old allegedly attacks police officer

A 22-year-old man was arrested early yesterday for allegedly assaulting a police officer on Lewers Street in Waikiki.

Police said a uniformed sergeant was responding to an unrelated call about 2:30 a.m. when he saw a large crowd gathered around a man lying on the ground.

Police said the officer tried to verbally break up the crowd, and then he pulled out his pepper spray.

Police said the 22-year-old kicked the officer, so he sprayed him. The man's friends then "pushed, kicked and assaulted" the officer.
