Join the drum circle
On Aug. 7, Camp Mokuleia will reverberate to the joyful sounds of drumming and percussion as hundreds of hand-drumming enthusiasts from around the world celebrate Hawaii's 9th annual Inter-Island Community Drum Circle.
The festivities will run from 2 to 5 p.m., led by Arthur Hull, and all from beginners to professional percussionists are invited to bring drums and percussion instruments to join in the afternoon of drumming, community building and fun. More than 400 people showed up at last year's event, and more are expected this year.
Camp Mokuleia is at 68-729 Farrington Highway, near Waialua. For more information, call 1-831-458-1946 or email outreach@drumcircle.com.

If you're gonna show skin ...
|
Forget the shirt sleeve, some prefer to wear their hearts on their skin.

Some people don't need a protective layer of clothing to express themselves; not when their skin is their canvas, and guest artist Steve Wetherington will be at Tattoolicious through Saturday to demonstrate the medium's possibilities during this skin-baring season.
Wetherington, a North Carolina resident who visits Honolulu annually, specializes in lifelike portraits and Japanese art, using the human body as a canvas. He has been practicing tattoo art for almost a decade after foregoing art school for a career pursuing his passion.
He can work from photos to create a portrait of a loved one, and takes time talking to each customer to create a personal work of art.
His rate starts at $100 per hour. Call 949-8287 for more information. Tattoolicious is at 1909 Ala Wai Boulevard off McCully.
