Pigeon John coming
to Wave Waikiki

SOME LOCAL underground hip-hop fans were disappointed when L.A. Symphony did a couple of shows here last September without the entire group being on hand to perform.

The main reason folks were grumbling was that Pigeon John, who at the time had just released a new album ("Pigeon John Is Dating Your Sister"), decided it would be better to focus on his solo project and not perform with the rest of LAS.

Now, almost a year later, the 2004 L.A. Weekly nominee for "Best MC in Los Angeles" will be in town for a gig tonight at the Wave Waikiki.

A product of the City of Angels' early '90s hip-hop scene, Pigeon John earned his stripes alongside artists like the Pharcyde, Black Eyed Peas, Freestyle Fellowship and Kurupt. He's also been a part of the group Brainwash Projects.

Tickets for tonight's show are $15; call 946-7773 for more info or if you just want to thank Toogruvz owner James Viso for bringing down such quality artists to the islands ...

I'VE BEEN getting a good start to my Friday nights lately by watching "Hot Hawaiian Nights" at 7 p.m. on KFVE -- it's a great way to see some of Hawaii's top local acts perform without having to leave the comfort of your living room.

This week, KOOPS2 and Excite Entertainment plan on keeping the party going even after the live television broadcast ends. You'll already have the chance to see Na Palapalai play on the small screen tomorrow night, but get down to Kapono's at Aloha Tower Marketplace and you'll also be able to see Del Beazley, Three Plus and Weldon Kekauoha on stage.

The TV taping after-party, called the "Mahalo Pa'ina" by promoters, is open to those 21 and over; a $5 cover charge applies. Call 678-3010 ...

LOTS OF stuff going on this Saturday, as usual ... Over at Reign, Rick Rock enters his second week of promoting "Sinsation Saturdays" at the club, with DJ Wu-Chang on the decks for the 18-and-over party. The $3 Crown Royal special is a good marketing ploy for the night -- Rock's been using the line, "You can't Reign without your Crown" in radio commercials ... House fans will want to visit Indigo this weekend for the first installment of "Scenes," a new monthly being promoted by KTUH/Sisters in Sound's Ms. Angel. DJs Haboh, Reid, Badmouth, Universoul and Mark will join her on the turntables this month; call 521-2900 ... The fun continues on Saturday at Don Ho's Island Grill, with the "Summer Surf Trilogy Concert Series" featuring a performance by Hulili. Five bucks gets you into the 21-and-over party; call 566-0644 ...

AND IF you can make it to Monday, check out "Bahama Mama Mondays" at the Hard Rock Cafe. Hosted by 102.7 Da Bomb's Big Koa, the 18-and-over party features a live set by Big Island reggae band Moemoea, with DJs Technique and Lost Boy in the mix. Call 296-1027 for more info ...
