Withy-Allen named player of the week

Hawaiian Islanders quarterback Shawn Withy-Allen was named the arenafootball2 offensive player of the week yesterday.

Withy-Allen set team records with 374 yards in total offense, 24 completions and a .727 completion percentage in the Islanders' 62-59 win over the Louisville Fire on Saturday.

The former University of Hawaii quarterback and Kalaheo High School graduate completed 24 of 33 attempts and tossed five touchdown passes, including the 19-yard game-winner to Anthony Arceneaux with 36.4 seconds left in the game. He also rushed for 48 yards and two scores.

Kim wins Waialae Women's Invitational

Bev Kim finished with a two-round total of 8-over-par 152 to win the Waialae Women's Invitational at Waialae Country Club.

Kim shot a 78 in yesterday's final round to claim overall low gross honors. Michiko Kimura was the low net winner with a total of 137.

Other low gross winners were Jung Sook Bae (Championship Flight), Stacie Delaney (A Flight), Linda Hoffman (B Flight), Suzie Kim (C Flight) and Jeane Chun (D Flight).

Low net winners were Terri Lui (Championship Flight), Biac Frame (A Flight), Sandy Miyamoto (B Flight), Kahili Chong (C Flight) and Corie Lee-Hasselman (D Flight).

Chang on list for Maxwell award

Hawaii senior quarterback Tim Chang is one of 41 players on the 2004 Maxwell Award watch list. The award goes annually to the nation's most outstanding college football player.

Chang is poised to break the NCAA all-time career passing yardage record. He needs 2,218 yards to eclipse the mark held by Ty Detmer.

Chang is also a candidate for the Davey O'Brien Award, which goes to the nation's top quarterback, and UH is promoting him as a Heisman Trophy candidate.

Tickets still available for Vince Goo fundraiser

Individual tickets and table requests are still available for a fundraiser honoring former University of Hawaii women's basketball coach Vince Goo to be held July 31 at the Stan Sheriff Center.

"Thank Goo for the Memories" will recognize the retired coach's contributions with proceeds going to an endowed scholarship in his name. The event starts at 5:30 p.m.

Table prices range from $1,000-$5,000. Individual tickets are $100. Fundraiser forms are available online at www.hawaiiathletics.com or by calling Michelle Kaminaga at 956-4325.
