Bank president’s wife
exemplified caring spirit

Rowena Leilani Nishimori Horner, the wife of First Hawaiian Bank President Don Horner, died yesterday at the Queen's Medical Center. She was 44.

Rowena Horner was an oncology nurse at Wilcox Hospital on Kauai and at Queen's. Born in Seoul, she grew up in Hawaii and graduated from Waimea High School on Kauai and from the University of Hawaii.

"She was a nurse through and through, with a spirit of caring and a smile that lit up the room. Fortunately, she instilled in our sons that same spirit of compassion," Don Horner said.

She is also survived by sons Matthew Ryan and Alexander Luke.

Visitation 11 a.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church of Honolulu, followed by a noon service. Aloha attire requested. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Christian Scholarship Fund, set up in her honor at Iolani School, or to the American Cancer Society.
