Jasmine’s dad having
a great time

Rudy Trias is living
the high life in L.A.

"American Idol"
Airs at 7 p.m. today on KHON/Fox
Theme: The music of Barry Manilow

Regardless of how far his daughter advances through and beyond "American Idol," Rudy Trias, father of Mililani finalist Jasmine Trias, has already experienced the high life.

As Jasmine's official guardian throughout the competition, the senior Trias has cohabited with the rest of the performers in the lavish "American Idol" mansion provided to them by the Fox network during their stay in Los Angeles. The other minors in the "American Idol" contest -- Diana DeGarmo and John Stevens, both 16 -- are also each accompanied by a parent.

"The mansion is pretty nice," Rudy Trias says. "It's got a pool and stuff, but only one time somebody went swimming because we're hardly there. All day we're gone. It's rare that we have time for ourselves."

That's because the "Idol" cast has endured a rigorous regimen of rehearsals nearly every day since the contest reached the final stage, with a field of 12 contestants. Rudy has had to accompany Jasmine to and from the television studio most days, and it's not unusual, he says, for the performers to put in 14-hour days.

"It's like a job," he said. "We leave early in the morning and get back late at night, pretty much every day."

Although he is not at liberty to disclose the mansion's location, several media outlets, including the Boston Herald and the New York Post, have placed the palatial digs in the Hollywood Hills, home to such stars as Sharon Stone, Brad Pitt, Kevin Costner and Denzel Washington.

Because of his unfamiliarity with the area, Rudy admits he probably couldn't tell anyone how to get there, anyway.

"I myself don't know where it is," he says. "It's in the hills somewhere, and it goes all the way to the top. I don't even know the address, I'll be honest with you. We just get picked up, they take us to the studio and they take us back over there."
