Carll, Kashiwai win Aloha Section PGA event

Kevin Carll and Kevin Kashiwai captured the 2003 Aloha section PGA E-Z-Go head and assistant professional championship at the Hualalai Golf Club on the Big Island yesterday. Thirty teams competed for a prize of $12,000 in the 36-hole four-ball stroke play event. Carll and Kashiwai carded a two-round total of 127 (64-63).

PGA Aloha section announces awards: Rick Castillo, the head professional at the Wailea Golf Club on Maui, was named the golf professional of the year for the PGA Aloha section. The Aloha section will hold its 2003 annual meeting and special awards luncheon Monday at the Renaissance Ilikai Waikiki Hotel. Kevin Hayashi was selected the Player of the Year for the best overall tournament performance, while Larry Stubblefield earned the distinction in the senior category.

Other award winners include: Randy Chang (Teacher of the Year), Dennis Rose (Horton Smith award), Mark Rolfing (Bill Strausbaugh award), Larry Keil (Junior Golf leader), Shane Abe (Assistant Professional of the Year), D.W. "Whitey" Rose (Distinguished Service award), Paul Sugimoto (President's award).

Lee named most outstanding at tournament

Junior wrestler Travis Lee, a Saint Louis graduate, went 4-0 and won one of four individual titles for Cornell last Saturday as the Big Red won the team title at the Mat Town Invitational at Lock Haven, Pa.

Lee was named most outstanding wrestler at the event and was named the Tompkins Trust Co./Cornell Varsity Athlete of the Week.

The top-ranked wrestler in the nation in his class, Lee defeated No. 2 Josh Moore of Penn State to win the 133-pound crown.

Oahu Club sponsors clinics for kids, adults

The Oahu Club is sponsoring a Carnival of Clinics on Saturday from noon to 3 p.m. Tennis, swimming and fitness clinics will be held for children and adults. Instruction in tennis will center on ground strokes, volleys and serves. In swimming, freestyle mechanics and increasing efficiency and power will be the focus of the clinic.
