gift certificate
Mall gift certificates are great for those hard-to-buy-for people. Because malls house more than just retail stores, this gift can cover a nice dinner, drinks and even a movie. Generally, certificates can be purchased during mall hours, but those hours vary during the holiday season, so call ahead.
Here's what's available:
Ala Moana: This is the only mall that charges a service fee on gift certificates --$1 on a single certificate, $2 on two to 10, $3 on 11 to 25, $4 on 26 to 50, $5 on 51 or more. The certificates may be purchased at the customer service center on the bottom level near the stage. Call 955-9517.
Kahala Mall and Pearlridge: These two malls have joined forces so that their certificates can be used at either site. They can be purchased at the management offices of both malls. At Pearlridge that would be next to Software ETC. on the second floor, Uptown (near the escalators). Call 488-0981. Kahala Mall's office, above Barnes & Noble, is the only office closed on weekends. But you can turn to an ATM machine in the mall near Macy's to buy gift certificates. Call 732-7736.
Victoria Ward Centers: Probably the best all-age gift certificate. With Dave & Buster's, the theaters, Jamba Juice, Starbucks and so many restaurants tucked among the stores in the centers, a certificate can be given to kids, teens and adults. Buy them at the Information Booth in Ward Warehouse (in front of The Chowder House). Call 593-2376.
Waikele Premium Outlets: This gift certificate is unique because it can also be used at "premium outlets" around the United States. Las Vegas travelers, for example, can use it at the outlet that opened recently near downtown. It can also be used at the Old Belz shops. At Waikele, the certificate can be used only at the upper shops -- not at Borders, K-Mart or any of the other big-box retailers in the lower half of the complex. Certificates can be purchased at the management office (between Blue Hawaii and Career Image). The certificate also comes with a voucher for a VIP coupon book that can be redeemed at the information center. Call 676-5656.
Windward Mall: No gift certificate covering all the stores is available. Individual store certificates can be purchased from participating merchants.
