St. Francis warns of possible job cuts

St. Francis Healthcare System notified its employees in a Nov. 28 letter that a restructuring of its operations could mean job cuts, consolidated patient services and restructuring of hospital facilities and programs.

The letter said that despite ongoing efforts to cut costs, the hospital system's financial picture had not improved sufficiently enough.

St. Francis spokeswoman Teri Tanaka said it's still too early to tell how many positions would be eliminated.

The letter to employees said restructuring details would be worked out over the next few weeks. Two years ago, St. Francis eliminated 150 jobs.

American adds Chicago-Oahu flight

American Airlines has boosted its Chicago-Honolulu direct service with a new flight that will run three times a week through Dec. 15, then daily through Jan. 5 and five times a week after that. The service uses a Boeing 767 aircraft with 29 seats in business class and 178 in coach.

American already flies daily nonstop from Chicago to Honolulu and Chicago-Maui.
