[ TURNING POINT ]
Warriors derail Tide's trip to the end zone
The Tide were rolling late in the third quarter, leading 21-16, with Shaud Williams running behind a big offensive line, eating yards and clock. Hawaii's defense seemed on its heels, showing the first signs of fatigue.
But a funny thing happened on the way to the end zone.
Williams, at the end of an 11-yard run to the Warriors' 22, had the ball knocked out of his grasp by UH safety David Gilmore. Cornerback Abraham Elimimian picked it up, giving the offense the ball and re-energizing the Warriors and their fans.
There were many more twists and turns to come, but the Warriors avoided a time-consuming knockout punch with one of three second-half turnovers the defense produced in the 37-29 victory.
"Turnovers are key for us," defensive backs coach Rich Miano said. "Always."

[ COMING UP ]
WAC champs hope to win another at UH
This Saturday's visit by Boise State isn't quite as intriguing as it was before the season started, when many predicted the game against Hawaii would determine the Western Athletic Conference championship.
But the 18th-ranked Broncos (11-1, 7-0 WAC) wrapped up a successful defense of their WAC crown yesterday with a 56-3 trouncing of Nevada.
Boise State is the last conference opponent to beat Hawaii at Aloha Stadium. The Broncos broke a five-game Warriors winning streak with a 28-21 victory on Nov. 10, 2001.
The Hawaii-Boise State series is tied at two wins each, but the Broncos have won both meetings since joining the WAC. Last year, Boise State beat Hawaii 58-31 on Boise's blue "SmurfTurf."
