A snowball fight broke out yesterday over the 30 tons of snow brought into the Hawaii Kai Towne Center. More than 1,000 people attended the event, sponsored by radio station Island 98.5, Toys For Tots and the shopping center, for a chance to build snowmen, throw snowballs and put their slipper-clad feet in the snow.

A fund-raiser was held last night for shark-attack victim Bethany Hamilton, right, at Waimea Valley Audubon Center. Keala Kennelly, the top-ranked surfer who won the Turtle Bay Resort Women's Pro four days ago, donated her surfboard for a benefit auction. Kennelly's board was one of many that were donated by the world's top 16 surfers.
