Pro Bowl tickets go on sale
Tickets for the 2004 Pro Bowl will go on sale Friday at 9 a.m. The NFL all-star game will be played Feb. 8 at Aloha Stadium.Tickets are available at all Ticketmaster outlets, the Blaisdell Arena and at Aloha Stadium. Fans can also buy tickets on-line at ticketmaster.com or via phone at 877-750-4400.
Clarke advances in tennis tournament
Top-seeded Peter Clarke advanced to the second round after a tough three-set victory over American Keith From, 5-7, 6-3, 7-6 (4) as play began in the main draw of the Honolulu Futures Tennis Tournament at the Ala Moana Beach Park tennis courts.Clarke, from Ireland, is ranked No. 336 in the world.
This is the first time in more than a decade that Honolulu has hosted a men's professional tennis event. The tournament features 32 tennis players from around the world vying for the $15,000 in prize money as well as points to move into the upper ranks of the men's tennis tour.
Hawaii's Malino Oda and Dennis Lajola are scheduled to play their first-round doubles match today as are Stephen Amritraj, nephew of tennis great Vijay Amritraj.
Play begins daily at 10 a.m. through Sunday's finals. Admission is free.
Matches are at Ala Moana Beach Park today and tomorrow. The event moves to Diamond Head Tennis Center on Friday with semifinals Saturday and finals Sunday.
3 more players added to Hula Bowl
Three more collegiate football stars have agreed to play in the 2004 Hula Bowl at Maui's War Memorial Stadium.Guard Josh Parrish of Washington State and centers A.J. Ricker of Missouri and Georgia's Hugh Reilly will bolster the offensive line in the postseason all-star game.
Parrish, Ricker and Reilly join Colorado State quarterback Bradlee Van Pelt and wide receiver Chris Collins of Mississippi, who have already committed to the game.
