For wine lovers
Two chefs step out of the kitchen and onto the stage Sunday to perform at Vintners in Paradise, a fund-raiser for PBS Hawaii, 4 to 8 p.m. at the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel.
Chefs Roy Yamaguchi and Hiroshi Fukui of L'Uraku perform on drums and guitar, respectively, with their band Manua, at select food events. Sunday they perform in a program that includes Carole Kai & Friends, Henry Kapono and 'Ale'a.
The main event, though, will be a selection of wines from France, Italy, Germany, Spain, California, Oregon and Washington state, plus sakes from Japan and heavy pupus designed to complement all the spirits.
Cost is $100; $75 for PBS Hawaii members. Tables for 10 are $1,000. Children's tickets are $25 and include professional childcare in an adjacent room with children's activities and dinner for ages 5 to 12.

If you prefer beer ...
Microbreweries from throughout the country will showcase their suds at the Great Diamond Head Beer & Wine Fest, 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Saturday at the Waikiki Shell.
The full name of the event is actually the Rolaids & Zantac Great Diamond, etc., which perhaps foreshadows your needs the day after tasting more than 90 premium beers, ales, stouts and porters from breweries around the world, alongside beer-friendly foods from Gordon Biersch, Pipeline Café, Compadres and Kevin's Two Boots. Entertainment will be by Guy Cruz.
Admission of $22 in advance or $29 at the door includes drink samplings. Pupu plates will sell for $4 to $9. Tickets are available at the Blaisdell box office and Ticketmaster locations. Call 526-4400 to charge by phone, or visit www.ticketmaster.com. Must be 21 to attend.
Luau celebration
The family service agency Parents And Children Together celebrates its 35th anniversary with a luau, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
Poi will be brought in from Kauai to be served alongside a all the traditional luau foods.
Eat in the courtyard and gym of the new Kuhio Park Terrace Community Center or purchase your meal take-out.
Kimo Kahoano will emcee a program of Hawaiian music and the Hip Hop Dancers from the PACT Community Teen Center.

Sweet treats
In this post-Halloween, pre-Christmas interval are you feeling the need for some sweets? Dessert Fantasy 2003, a benefit for United Cerebral Palsy, offers a sure-fire sugar fix.
The all-you-can-eat buffet on Sunday at the Pacific Beach Hotel will feature signature desserts from restaurants and hotel kitchens, as well as bakeries (such as Ted's Bakery and Agnes Portuguese Bakery), cookie and candy shops (Big Island Candies, Kona Paradise Candies) and ice cream parlors.
Cost is $20 ($15 tax-deductible) for open tasting from 1 to 3 p.m. A Gourmet Group price of $100 ($80 deductible) includes lunch and wine sampling beginning at 11 a.m.
Whichever option you choose, don't leave early. In the final few minutes, make a donation, get a take-out box and fill it up with leftovers.

Turkey the Day After, Indigo Style: Glenn Chu of Indigo Eurasian Cuisine demonstrates the making of jook, or Chinese rice soup, using turkey leftovers, 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. next Wednesday at the Lyon Arboretum. Cost is $28; $25 for arboretum members. Call 988-0456.
