Star-Bulletin Staff
Strategies to address Hawaii's tobacco control problems will be discussed at a conference from 7:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. Thursday at the Hilton Hawaiian Village, Tapa Tower Ballrooms 1 and 2.
"Making Waves: Pursuing Health and Justice in Tobacco Control" is the theme of the meeting, sponsored by the state Department of Health and other organizations concerned about tobacco use.
Among speakers will be Lt. Gov. James "Duke" Aiona; Cheryl Healton, president and chief executive officer, American Legacy Foundation; Gregory Connolly, director, Massachusetts Tobacco Control Program; and Daniel McGoldrick, research director, National Center for Tobacco-Free Kids.
The Health Department describes the issue as one of "social justice."
It says it is working to respond to obstacles to the enactment and enforcement of tobacco control programs and policies in Hawaii.
