Natural Vibes
at Beach House

IT LOOKS LIKE the guys from Natural Vibrations have succeeded in spreading their aloha far beyond the shores of Hawaii.

Since their latest album, "The Circle," was released in early September, it has spent a month on Billboard's Top Reggae Albums Chart among artists like Sean Paul, Bob Marley, Shaggy and UB40. This week they're listed at number 12.

And while there hasn't been a shortage of opportunities to catch the guys performing live around town, this weekend brings the "official" CD release party to the Beach House at Aloha Tower Marketplace.

Doors open at 6 p.m. Friday night, and the party features three stages of entertainment with Free Sound, Red Degree, One Drop, Roots Odyssey, Inoa'ole, Koa'uka and Thick Tubes. Over on the main stage, Natural Vibes will be joined throughout the evening by special guests B.E.T., Sudden Rush and Ho'onu'a. Cover is $10 for this one; call 566-0644 ...

"Hi, I'm Dan Gordon," he said. Yes, it was that Gordon; one of the founders of Gordon Biersch just happened to end up in line behind me! It might not have been a big deal for some folks, but for a beer drinker like myself, the chance encounter turned out to be the highlight of my weekend.

As it turns out, Gordon was in town last weekend to oversee the rollout of Gordon Biersch's garlic fries in the three Costco stores on Oahu. All reactions so far had been pretty positive, he told me, before paying for some of his own product and strolling out the door ...

THINK YOU'VE GOT the skills to rock the decks in front of a crowd? Head over to Anna Bannana's tonight for "Fierce Beats," an evening where the turntables are open to anyone brave enough to bring their vinyl and step up to the challenge.

Doors open at 8 p.m. tonight for the 21-and-over crowd, and if you're going to spin, get there early in order to sign up for an open slot. MCs are welcome to throw down as well; call 946-5190 ...
