Irons brothers to meet in Boost Mobile Pro
Reigning world surfing champion Andy Irons of Kauai will face his brother, Bruce, in the third round of the Boost Mobile Pro at Lower Trestles, Calif., today.
Bruce Irons caught a wave with less than 10 seconds left in his heat to score an 8.5 and advance to the third round, which means that he will bring home at least $4,000 regardless of the outcome today.
Kalani Robb, another Hawaii surfer in the competition, won an extra $3,000 for the best aerial ride during the Foster's Expression. Robb beat Beau Emerson of Australia 16.67-11.83 but lost 14.97-14.66 to Nathan Hedge in the third round.
Shane Dorian, who faces Luke Egan of Australia today, is the only other Hawaii surfer still in the hunt.
