HONOLULU RESIDENTS had a lot of chances to mingle with folks from MTV's "Real World" and "Road Rules" television shows over the weekend.
While the schedule of events that I got last week wasn't followed very closely, most of the nightclub meet-and-greet sessions were well attended by the reality stars. Ace Amerson and Adam Kang, from "The Real World: Paris," were in fine form at Blue Tropix when I saw them, while Ruthie Alcaide and Lori Trespicio (from "The Real World: Hawaii" and "The Real World: Return to New York," respectively) were a lot nicer than I expected when I said hello to them outside of the Hellbound Hounds' CD release party on Saturday at the Wave.
Also spotted in town over the weekend: Jared Fogle (the guy who lost all that weight eating Subway sandwiches) and the NBA's highly touted star of the future, LeBron James ...
IF YOU missed the finals of the "2003 Battle of the Rock Bands" at Pipeline Cafe last week, you slept on a fantastic showcase by some of Hawaii's top up-and-coming talent.
Little Moments took top honors on Thursday night, but that doesn't take anything away from the other finalists -- Amplified, Apartment 3, Filthy Degenerates, Linus, No Bare Feet, Olivia and Pimpbot all rocked hard during the competition ...
OVER AT the Hawaiian Hut on Saturday night, DJ Euphorik headlined "Twisted," a night of hip-hop and house music presented by the gang at Wonderland Productions, Next Wave and Grip Video. DJs Euro, Method, SMK and Vision were also on the decks throughout the evening.
The party also featured a special one-hour set of house and trance music in memory of Brandon "DJ Ewok" Kobayashi, one of Wonderland's founding members, who died on Halloween last year while studying as an exchange student in Japan ...
HIP-HOP SUPERSTAR 50 Cent might rap about being "In Da Club," but Chicago-born Common (a superstar in his own right) could write a rhyme titled "In Da Spa" after spending some time at the Aveda Lifestyle Salon and Spa in Ala Moana Center yesterday.
The rapper and his entourage were invited by Aveda director Lindsay Schwinck after she found out about his show Sunday night at Pipeline, and Common reportedly "didn't hesitate" in taking her up on the offer ...
