California dominates regional soccer finals
Soccer teams from California dominated the final day of the Snickers U.S. Youth Far West Regional Championships yesterday, with the California Youth Soccer Association-South winning seven titles and CYSA-North two at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Park.
Arizona and Colorado each notched three titles apiece. The winners advance to the national championships, July 22-27, in Germantown, Md.
Clubs claiming multiple titles include the San Diego Surf of Carlsbad, Calif. (Girls Under-16, U-13 and U-12) and the Sereno Golden Eagles of North Phoenix/Scottsdale, Ariz. (Boys-17 Boys and Girls U-17 and U-15 Girls).
The lone Hawaii Youth Soccer Association representative fell in the finals of the Girls U-12 championship, losing 1-0 to the San Diego Surf White.
No defending champions, regional or national, repeated this year. The last two clubs remaining lost their matches today, with the Colorado Girls Academy slipping past the Sereno Golden Eagles in Girls U-18 Girls and the Marin United of Cal-North defeating the ISC Strikers of Cal-South.
