Leithead-Todd joining
Mayor Kim’s team
HILO >> Hawaii County councilwoman Bobby Jean Leithead-Todd will resign her part-time council post to take a full-time job as a lawyer in Mayor Harry Kim's administration, she announced yesterday.
Leithead-Todd noted that her husband, Steve, is scheduled to lose his job with the state Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism on June 30.
"I don't like leaving in the middle of my term. I'm doing this solely because I need to support the family; that's three kids," she said.
Leithead-Todd, 50, has been chairwoman of the council's Planning Committee where she has worked on a pending revision of the county General Plan. Last year she introduced a bill, to be voted on in Kona today, to tighten restrictions on smoking in public places.
She represents northern Hilo and was elected to a two-year term in November.
A council member since 1996, Leithead-Todd must pass a physical exam required of all employees before assuming her new job as a deputy corporation counsel.
The county charter calls for remaining council members to pick her replacement.
