Seminar addresses
how to fight termites

Residents who want to know more about the pests chewing on their homes and furniture are invited to a termite information seminar from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Moanalua High School.

The Hawaii Area-Wide Termite Suppression Project of the University of Hawaii-Manoa's College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources is presenting the program through the Moanalua High School Adult Education Program.

Costs to Hawaii residents are estimated at more than $100 million annually to control and repair termite damage, and repairs to public schools are estimated at $241 million, according to the project.

UH termite experts will give homeowners tips on how to prevent and control the insects, as well as some facts about them. They also will answer questions.

For more information or to register, call 837-8466. Registration is required.

The Hawaii Area-Wide Termite Suppression Project involves research, extension and instruction, bringing UH scientists together with the community to try to control termite damage to residences and public buildings.

Information on termite species in Hawaii, termite education in public schools and a guide on how owners can protect their homes may be obtained from the Web site: www2.hawaii.edu/~entomol/
