Tata joining Islanders

Former Nebraska linebacker Tony Tata is returning home.

Tata, a prep standout at Saint Louis School, was assigned by the arenafootball2 league to play for the Hawaiian Islanders.

The 6-3, 270-pound Tata left the Cornhuskers last year to deal with family problems.

Tata never fully recovered after surgery to repair his left knee which he injured in Nebraska spring camp three years ago. He played as a backup in nine games of the 2000 season.

The Islanders (7-2) also activated Josh White from the injured list. To make room for the two players, Hawaii placed quarterback Darnell Arceneaux and tight end Morrie Roe on the short-term injured reserved list.

English impressing at NBA Draft camp

CHICAGO >> Hawaii guard Carl English continues to impress at this week's NBA Pre-Draft Camp at the Moody Bible Institute gym.

"He's intriguing," one Western Conference coach told ESPN.com. "He's got a nice NBA body. He's quick and he's a good shooter. I think he'll really help himself here."

On Wednesday, the 6-foot-5 English started at point guard for Team Six in a 70-61 victory over a Jason Gardner-led Team Five. English, who has one year of eligibility remaining with the Rainbows, was five of 11 from the floor -- with a pair of NBA 3-pointers --with 13 points in 16 minutes.

English has not yet signed with an agent but said he will begin searching for one after the camp ends today.

English did well in the strength/flexibility tests Wednesday. The 201-pounder had 11 bench-press repetitions of 185 pounds and touched 11 feet, 3 inches on his vertical jump.

Although listed as an underclassman, the Canadian national graduated last month from UH with a bachelor's degree. The NBA Draft is June 26.

Omura, Inouye All-Americans

Hawaii Rainbows Isaac Omura and Matt Inouye have been named to the freshman All-American team selected by Louisville Slugger and Collegiate Baseball.

Omura hit .301 in 44 games while Inouye led the team with a .338 average.
