More than 100 striking nurses, their supporters and several dogs began marching around 8 this morning from St. Francis Medical Center to Kuakini Medical Center, The Queen's Medical Center and, finally, Thomas Square where a rally was scheduled to take place at 11 a.m. Billed as a rally for "safe staffing," the event was organized by The Hawaii Nurses Association, which has been trying to negotiate new contracts for nurses at the three hospitals. "We'd like to let the public know we're out here in these numbers," said striking Queen's nurse Steve Ross. Shown is a group of nurses marching along Vineyard Boulevard this morning.
