Innocent plea
entered in killing

Star-Bulletin staff

A convicted rapist accused of strangling and beheading a prostitute and leaving her remains in a Waikiki apartment two doors from his pleaded not guilty yesterday.

Trial for Donald Barry Marks, 39, was set for Jan. 13. He was indicted last week for second-degree murder in the death of Yoko Sanders, 38, whose body was discovered Nov. 2 in an Ala Wai apartment. Her head and both arms had been cut off and were found next to her body.

Marks is being held in lieu of $1-million bail because the court deemed him dangerous and a flight risk.

Marks was arrested Aug. 26, 1991, when a 13-year-old girl told police that he raped her. The girl lived in the same Aiea apartment building. In June 1994, Marks pleaded guilty to one second-degree sexual assault charge. He was released from prison last May.
