QUICK: What do Bill Quinn, Linda Lingle and poet T.S. Eliot have in common? The first two, of course, are the only Republicans voted into the governor's office in Hawaii, but where does Eliot come in? All three were born in St. Louis, Missouri ... So what do Jordan Segundo, Kanoi Gibson and Crystal Akana have in common? Segundo was the winner and the other two runners-up in Radio station I-94's "American Idol" contest, and will take off Friday to audition on Sunday for the show's new season. Even if none of them make it, they can lay claim to being Hawaiian-Eye-dolls ...

THE Monarch Room of the Royal Hawaiian was awash with tears when former students of hula master Maiki Aiu Lake gathered for the screening of the new video, "Biography Hawaii: Maiki Aiu Lake." Those who weren't able to join Robert Cazimero, Michael Pili Pang, Kaumeheiwa and dozens of others for the screening can see the video when it airs on PBS Nov. 20. Incidentally, that same night Pang and his halau won the Wahine Hula Kahiko and Hula Auwana division of the 10th annual World Invitational Hula Festival, and his musician was none other than Kahauana Lake, Maile's husband ...

Miller time

It's over 50 years old now and is still produced regularly because it still speaks to American Dreamers. Don Pomes heads a fine cast in HPU's production ... Two Christopher Durang one act plays open tomorrow night at TAG's Little Brick Theater on Keawe St., but there'll be a pretty good invited audience there for tonight's final dress rehearsal. The cast of Manoa Valley Theater's hit musical, "Honk," will be there since it's the only chance they'll have to see the show because they run on the same schedule ...

TWO King St. establishments had volunteered to show "Magique," an art show by a group of artists calling themselves The Intuitionists, so a decision was made to show at both of them. On Sunday an appreciative crowd gathered at Coffee Factory and The Mystery Cat, across the street and down a half block, using crosswalks across King to see the works at both locales ...

DID you know that the Uptown Cafe is located downtown? It brought me to mind of the Corner Liquor Store when it moved from the middle of one block to the middle of another ... But Tamarind Park is definitely downtown and will be the site of the Salvation Army's holiday kick-off bash tomorrow. First Lady Vicky Cayetano and Mayor Jeremy Harris will make the ceremonial first donations to the Salvation Army's red kettles ...

A luncheon lineup

WHEN the Royal Hawaiian Hotel holds its Aloha Friday luncheon show this week, they've lined up an impressive batch of entertainers. Performing will be Robert Cazimero, Brother Noland, Karen Keawehawai'i with Aunty Mapu and Aunty Flo, Na Palapalai and the Brickwood Quartet ...
