On the Scene
REMEMBERING MAIKI: Stephen Fox, Ku'uipo Kumukahi, Karen Aiu and Hula Records executive Cindy Lance (from left) all had good reasons to attend the premiere of "Biography Hawaii Presents Maiki Aiu Lake" at Punahou School on Saturday. Fox was music coordinator of the film honoring Aiu's mother, whose legacy continues at the Halau Hawai'i Learning Center (headed by Aiu and Kumukahi). The film airs at 8 p.m. Nov. 20 on KHET/PBS.
RIGHT ON, CHRIS!: Christian Yrizarry, left, congratulated Chris Carillo at Carillo's CD party, held Saturday night at Kapono's. Reign, Pacific Blu, Jook Joint, Ho'onu'a and Baba B provided the party music. Guitarist Carillo displayed his range and versatility by sitting in with them.
A GREAT NIGHT FOR DANCE: Greg Howell, Star Williams, Cynthia Fritts and Stan Yonamine (from left) were among the adventurous dance fans who caught an excellent multicultural performance by Ronald E. Brown/Evidence at the Hawaii Theatre on Saturday. Brown and his troupe blended elements of African, Caribbean, America and European music and dance in fascinating style. Every choreographer and dancer in Hawaii should've been there.
