Big Bay tour: Wining,
dining and 49-ing

ONLY 20 lucky people will be able to purchase the well-named "5-Star Food and Wine Experience." Justin Yoshino of Partymasters Hawaii put the package together with Star Markets CEO John Fujiki Jr. and Russell Siu, chef/owner of 3660 on the Rise. The tour departs Oct. 4 and begins in San Francisco where you have a day to shop and dine and on Sunday be escorted to 3-Com Park to see the 49ers take on the St. Louis Rams, and enjoy a tailgate party with lots to eat and drink. Then a chartered limo coach takes all to the Napa Valley Marriott for a welcoming cocktail party, followed by three days of fine wining and dining (Mustard's Grill, La Famiglia, Bouchon and the hot new Julia's), optional golf, hot air ballooning and shopping. Then it's off to Las Vegas and a most-expenses paid stay at the Golden Nugget. I don't know how many golden nuggets it'll take to get on this tour, but it sounds like a blast! Call Yoshino for more info at 957-0303 ...

WE mentioned what a bargain the Dec. 6 Brian Wilson Honolulu Marathon concert was going to be at the Waikiki Shell, but there's a bit of a catch. The tickets are purchased only in conjunction with purchase of race registration, so sign up now if you want to see the Beach Boy perform. ...

Saturday night jazz

IF you tune in KITV Saturday night you can see the first annual Ka Leo Hano Awards TV special. We won't spoil the show by telling you all the winners, but the show was filmed at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center to a sold-out audience. Many of Hawaii's top entertainers were honored (Aunty Genoa Keawe, Jack Demello, Brothers Cazimero, Gabby Pahinui and the Makaha Sons), while many of today's musicians made special appearances: Keali'i Reichel, Willie K., Amy Gilliom, Barry Flanigan, Cyril and Bla Pahinui). The show will be rebroadcast Sept. 7 at 3 p.m. on Channel 4 ...

IF you take your kids for a ride on the Navatek, be careful what you let them eat if members of Nohelani Cypriano's troupe are observing you. One Polynesian dancer, Lyanna Tumaneg, was just crowned Miss Oahu 2003 with a platform "Promoting Healthy Lifestyles, Preventing Childhood Obesity." She'll compete in the Miss Hawaii pageant next June. At the same ceremony at Mamiya Theatre, Lauren Chow was crowned Miss Hawaii Teen. Each gets an all-expenses paid trip to Atlantic City to attend the Miss America Scholarship Pageant in September ...

Three for the show

A TRIO of young people brought together by their love of horses are Hawaii's best hopes in the prestigious North American Young Rider Championships next August in Bromont, Canada. Breezy Burgoon is a 17-year-old at Kalaheo High, Kelly Ryan is a student at Windward Community College and Tricia Silva is a student at UH. The three dressage specialists own their own horses and train at Hilltop Equestrian Center in Waimanalo. Qualifying shows for the championships will be held here next spring, but in the meantime you can see the girls ride through their paces Sept. 7 at Maunawili Stables and Sept. 8 at Hilltop Equestrian Center. The shows are free and open to the public ...
