A 23-year old working mom will get a chance to make a 40-foot putt worth $1 million Sunday before the Sony Open at Waialae Country Club. Sony Open will start with
a $1 million putt of 40 feetStephenni Ortega of Salinas, Calif., earned the chance at the prize when she made a 40-footer on her first try in San Francisco last fall. She will take home $10,000 worth of Sony products should she miss.
Her attempt on the 18th green will kick off this year's Sony Open, which will run through Jan. 13.
Hawaii swimmers home for Rainbow tourney
Hawaii's swimming and diving teams will host the 26th Rainbow Invitational Friday and Saturday.The field for the event will not be set until tomorrow, but 16 teams are already in town training at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex and may stay around to compete.
The meet begins at 3 p.m. and is free to the public. It will be televised by KFVE on a delayed basis at 7 p.m.
Chaminade pushes up PacWest opener
Chaminade will open its conference schedule tomorrow vs. Montana State-Billings at 7:30 p.m. at McCabe Gymnasium.The game was originally scheduled for Friday but was moved up due to facility conflicts.
Chaminade is 7-4 on the year, while Montana State-Billings (8-1) is No. 21 in the NCAA Division II poll.
The schools will also play Saturday.
Sato rallies past Inouye in Soaring Eagles golf
Michael Jay Sato beat Travis Inouye in the Soaring Eagles 3-day golf tournament at the Leilehua and Kalakaua courses last week.Sato entered the second round three strokes behind Inouye, but he went on to shoot a 78 while Inouye fell off the pace with an 87.
Sato cruised from there, finishing with a 229 to beat Inouye by seven strokes.
Alex Ching and Bradley Shigezawa tied for third at 237.
