The men's winners shared $17,400 for their third win this season and second-straight on the AVP Pro Beach Volleyball Tour after winning last week.
Vulcan alumni win in straight sets
Facing one of its youngest alumni squads, the Hawaii-Hilo volleyball team managed to pull out a 30-27, 30-26, 30-24 victory Saturday in the annual Alumni Challenge.
"The alumni gave us a real battle, which was really nice," UH-Hilo volleyball coach Sharon Peterson said. "We have more to learn. Everyone played OK tonight. I've seen them play better so I know we have more to come."
Sara Pilgreen led the Vulcans with 12 kills.
Hilo knocks off host in Kamehameha tourney
Hilo beat Kamehameha 10-3, 8-7 Saturday night to win the Pool A championship of the second annual Kamehameha Invitational Girls Volleyball Tournament.
Kauai took home the consolation prize by defeating Kaimuki 12-7, 11-4. Moanalua beat Mililani 13-4, 11-5 to win the Pool B title. Kalani rallied past Kamehameha's JV Blue squad 6-10, 15-2, 15-11.
UH volleyball tickets go on sale today
Individual tickets for the upcoming Hawaii volleyball season go on sale today at the Stan Sheriff Center box office. Hours are from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Individual tickets are also available at the UH Campus Center, all Foodland and Sack N Save stores (except School Street), and all Ticket Plus outlets.
Tickets are also available via the Ticket Plus phone sales line at 526-4400.
Ticket prices are $12 lower level (single seats only), $9 upper level (adults), $8 senior citizen and $6 students.
UH opens its home schedule by hosting the Hawaiian Airlines Wahine Volleyball Classic, Aug. 31-Sept. 2. The Wahine open with Kansas State on Friday.
