After giving up two hits and a run in the first inning, Danielle Young was nearly unhittable, leading Kailua past Waianae, 4-1, and into the state tournament. OIA Softball finals
The Surfriders won the Oahu Interscholastic Association Tournament fifth-place game yesterday at Keolu Field to secure the league's final state berth.
Mililani and Pearl City -- who play today for the OIA championsip -- and Leilehua and Kaimuki will also participate in the state tournament.
Steph Gould doubled in two runs for Kailua in a four-run fifth inning.
After the rough start, Young allowed just a sixth-inning double the rest of the game.
"She started pretty shaky," Kailua coach Bernard Victor said. "Then she settled down. She pretty much pitched three games in a row for us."
Young entered Wednesday's game against Leilehua in the first inning and Thursday's against Castle in the second.
