Lady Frogs The intense defense that allowed Hawaii to overcome a slow start and take a 10-point lead with 9:31 to play disappeared when it mattered most.

UH can't hold 10-point fourth
quarter lead, and TCU
takes over in OTWAHINE NOTEBOOK

Star-BulletinThat's when Katarina Safaritova took over the game with a player of the week offensive show.
The 6-foot-2 junior transfer from Weatherford College, once on the UH recruiting list, scored 13 of Texas Christians' next 15 points while the Wahine hit nothing.
After April Atuaia's layup with four seconds left tied the game at the end of regulation, 55-55, the Horned Frogs scored the first 11 points in overtime.
The 72-66 victory before 873 fans at the Stan Sheriff Center was the first ever here for TCU.
And if defense got UH its lead, it was TCU's defense that put the visitors back in the game by holding the Wahine scoreless for seven and a half minutes.
"We had some shots, but they didn't fall. We had some turnovers where we were trying to force the power game, but they came out and played us a real good, tight zone, taking away our shot down in the corner," Hawaii coach Vince Goo said.
"We tried to force the ball in. We threw some skip passes for turnovers. We tried to go in to the post twice and turned it over. We don't even get a shot and they come down and score."
After Tiffany Evans made two free throws, Safaritova sank three consecutive 3-pointers, hit a 10-foot jumper and capped her outburst with a layup.
Crystal Lee's 3-pointer with 2:04 left broke the UH drought and cut the Horned Frogs' lead to 53-51.
TCU went up by four points on Janice Thomas' fastbreak layup, the only one of the game.
Karena Greeny converted two free throws with a minute to play. After missed opportunities at both ends, Atuaia took a pass underneath from Christa Brossman and scored to force overtime.
"I did the play wrong. I was supposed to go on the other side, but I was in the right place at the right time," Atuaia said.
However, an 11-0 run by TCU to start the overtime period was too much for the Wahine to overcome.
Forced to foul, Tricia Payne converted six consecutive free throws that more than offset Lee's three 3-pointers.
Lee's six 3-pointers tied the UH single-game record. She led the Wahine with 22 points.
Texas Christian negated the UH inside game much of the way.
It didn't help when starting center Dainora Puida picked up two fouls in the first three minutes. Christen Roper and Natasja Allen provided quality relief minutes at the post in the first half, but Hawaii got just seven points from its three post players.
And Kylie Galloway took herself out of the game with a little more than two minutes to play because of discomfort and a lightheaded feeling. She will see a doctor today for tests.
Her scoring ability was missed especially when the TCU defenders moved a step or two further out on the top of the perimeter.
"The key was we just did not defend Safaritova in the second half. We had our '5' player matched up with her. She was launching 3s and if she's doing that you're not close enough," Goo said.
"I thought we did a real great job defending their other personnel. The twins (Jill Sutton and recently married sister Amy Porter) were 1-for-6 on 3-point attempts, but their '5' player goes 5-for-9."
Entering the game, Safaritova was 5-for-15 from beyond the arc.
"They had a really good defense. We couldn't shoot because they knew exactly what we were doing," said Wahine point guard Jana Gabrielova.
"We tried to go inside, but we were forcing it too many times. There were too many skip (cross-court) passes."
Despite having players playing out of position at the end, the Wahine never quit.
Greeny tied her season and career high with 10 points.
